VW AC compressor change: original, rebuilt or used part? - bramelliott - 22.10.2026 My Volkswagen Tiguan has about a hundred thousand kilometers, and last week the AC went from cool to warm with a squealing noise every time I switched it on. A garage in Sharjah checked it and said the compressor is worn out and needs to be changed. Then he gave me three prices: an original part, a rebuilt one and a used one. The gap between them is big, and he didn't say much about why. I live in Sharjah and the car sits in the sun all day, so I cannot go without AC for long. My brother says a used compressor is fine and saves half the money. A friend says a used or cheap one can fail in a few months, and that the whole system must be flushed or the new part will break too. I looked online for a Professional Volkswagen AC compressor change in Sharjah, but every page said the same thing, so I still do not know what a proper job includes. Should the shop replace the dryer and flush the pipes at the same time? Do they test the pressure and the clutch before they say the compressor is dead? Does the new part come with a written warranty? How long does the job take, and is it safe to drive with the AC off in the meantime? If you changed a compressor, please tell me which part you chose, what you paid, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most. |
